August, 1996-August, 1999.

Taught international students enrolled in eight-week intensive sessions.
Taught all core skills (reading, writing, speaking and structure) and all levels
(beginner to advanced).

  • Taught reading through skills such as skimming, scanning, prediction and so on;
  • Taught a course based on the Holocaust and Elie Wiesel's Night in the highest level of Reading and Writing.
  • Taught writing through a process approach of freewriting to final revision;
  • Taught speaking through a communicative syllabus.
  • Participated in preview, selection and development of curriculum materials.
  • Assisted in testing and placement of new students each session.
  • Taught integrated-skill optional courses such as American culture, Pronunciation, TOEFL preparation and Web Page Design.
  • Responsible for syllabus design for each core and optional course.
  • Served as coordinator for the structure curriculum.
  • Taught speaking and writing courses in external programs designed specifically for EFL groups from countries such as Brazil, Korea and Japan.
  • Taught academic writing skills to international graduate students.
  • Taught Teaching methods in the International Teaching Assistant Program (ITAP)
  • Evaluating SPEAK tests and micro-teaching in ITAP.
  • Supervised MATESL students doing internships in the English Language Institute.
  • Participated in extracurricular student activities as an adjunct to the language learning/taught process.
  • Advised students from all areas of the world.
  • Served as coordinator of the the English Language Institute's Lab and Resource Center.

Fellow, the Soros Foundation Professional English Teaching Program

  • Designed syllabi consisting of integrated skills (reading, writing, speaking, structure) for high school native Albanian speaking and native Macedonian speaking EFL students.
  • Taught beginners to upper-intermediate.
  • Initiated an English language student newspaper, and advised students in all areas of the newspaper.
  • Wrote a grant proposal for funding for the newspaper.

  • Used ESL Communicative Competence principles.
  • Designed and implemented advanced speaking course syllabi.

  • Designed and administered the placement test.
  • Monitored students' progress under the new structure.
  • Participated in Faculty meetings and informal methodology discussions.
  • Participated in extracurricular activities with students.
  • Acted as chaperon on an international trip to Switzerland and France.
