Dan and Ann were found as puppies on the side of a country road.  Charlie was found, as a puppy, on that same road.  All of the other animals were rescues, gotten at the shelter, or taken as a favor to a friend.

Dan & Ann are brother and sister, Harold & Maude are brother and sister, and Hyde & Zeek (a.k.a. "the ears ") are brother and sister.
