Getting Started

In order to keep your files together, and ultimately save you a lot of grief in the long run, you should create a separate folder for your web site. You can do this under windows explorer on a PC, or on the Desktop on a Mac. Or, if you wish, you can create the folder on a floppy disk.

Name this folder, "website." All your HTML documents will be placed in this folder.

Create a new folder within "website," and name this folder "images." All your pictures, sounds, and movies should be kept in this folder.

One thing to remember throughout this workshop, is that everytime you name something, you must use lowercase letters, and the name must be only one word. The name cannot contain any spaces. If you would like to be more descriptive, use an underscore. For example, instead of naming a folder "CS 205" you should name it "cs_205."

Part I--Basics

The first part of this workshop will go through the basics of Dreamweaver, what it can do and where to find things you need. We will experiement with different documents.

In the second part of this workshop, you will be using your own files and documents to work on your own homepage.

At the end, you should have an excellent start on your site, with at least your index page, your resume, and part of a course you teach.
