Setting Up Your Site

Creating a site is a wonderful tool for organization. A few simple steps will save you a lot of headache in the end.

1. Click on "Site" then "New Site."

2. Name your site whatever you want.

3. Now you must establish what folder is going to be your local root folder. This will be the folder we named "website" earlier. Click on the folder icon on the far right to search for this folder. When you have found it, click ok.

4. If you already know the web address of the site you are creating, you can enter it under "HTTP Address:", but it is not necessary at this point.

5. Now click on "Web Server Info." This will set up your FTP client automatically, and you will not have to use WS_FTP every time you want to put your files online.

6. Change the drop-down menu here to read "FTP" instead of "None"

7. You will then get the dialogue box below.

8. FTP Host: is bama.ua.edu if you have a Bama account, which you all should have.

9. Host Directory: is "public_html" This is very important.

10. Login: this is your userid

11. If you don't want to enter your password every time you want to FTP something, check the box marked "Save."

12. Click OK.
