Creating Your Site

If you have any work areas open in Dreamweaver, close them without saving. We are going to start from scratch.

1. Open a new document by clicking "File" then "New".

2. Immediately save this document. Save it in your website folder as index.html. If you already have an index.html document, overwrite it.

3. Now modify your Page Properties (Modify-->Page Properties). Choose your background color (this should be white unless you have a VERY good reason to make it a different color), text color, and links colors.

4. Now, draw a new layer.

REMEMBER--everything you place should be on a new layer.

5. Click on the image icon on the Common Objects Palette.

6. Find the photo of yourself and insert.

7. Make the layer active by clicking on it or by clicking on it's HTML tag in the lower left-hand corner of the work area.

8. Grab the handle and position the layer where you would like it.

9. Draw a new layer.

10. Type in your name and any other information you would like to appear as a caption under your picture.

11. Draw a new layer.

12. Click on the insert Table icon in the Common Objects Palette.

13. Enter:

3 rows

2 columns

0 cellpadding

0 cellspacing

100 percent

0 border

14. Click OK

15. Enlarge the table by grabbing the lowest line and dragging down.

Your cell heights should equal out.

17. Put your cursor in the lower left cell, click and drag horizontally. This should highlight both cells in the third row.

We are going to merge them together. Look at the Properties Palette.

18. Click this button. Your cells should now be merged.
